The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has rejected reports claiming that military lands have been allocated to businessman Ibrahim Mahama for private development, describing the allegations as false and malicious.
In a disclaimer shared on Facebook on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, he clarified that no such arrangement exists, stressing that the claims are misleading and intended to deceive the public.
According to him, the reports appear to have arisen from a self-help redevelopment initiative being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp. The project seeks to replace aging colonial-era structures and improve accommodation for military personnel.
As part of efforts to support the initiative, Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group, has donated GH¢120 million towards the construction of 10 residential blocks, each comprising 16 housing units.
The Ministry of Defence indicated that the redevelopment forms part of broader efforts to enhance living conditions for service personnel and address longstanding infrastructure challenges within the camp.
The fundraising drive for the project was launched at a luncheon held last Saturday at the Ghana Military Academy. The event, chaired by renowned business leader Sir Sam Jonah, attracted pledges and support from corporate institutions and partners of the Armed Forces.
Ernest Brogya Genfi commended Ibrahim Mahama for what he described as an extraordinary act of patriotism, noting that the donation would significantly improve the welfare of soldiers.
He also urged the public to disregard the false reports and rely on credible sources for information regarding the activities of the Ghana Armed Forces.
