GES stops salary of Bole SHS Teacher over alleged sexual misconduct

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the payment of salary to a teacher at Bole Senior High School accused of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a student in the school’s science laboratory, after he reportedly failed to report to duty following the incident.

According to GES, the teacher has gone into hiding, prompting immediate administrative measures, including the suspension of his salary and a formal complaint to the Ghana Police Service to assist in his arrest and investigation.

Speaking to the media on Monday, July 1, GES Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis said the Service is collaborating with security agencies to ensure the teacher is located and made to face both criminal prosecution and internal disciplinary action.

He explained that the teacher had already been interdicted before the decision was taken to stop his salary, adding that the action became necessary after he absconded from duty.

Professor Davis stressed that GES will enforce the strictest disciplinary measures under its code of conduct, describing the alleged behaviour as unacceptable and harmful to the safety and wellbeing of students.

“We want to pursue legal action against the staff involved and also take him through our established processes under the code of conduct so that, at the end of the day, we apply the rules as stipulated in our code of conduct,” he said.

“We will apply the toughest sanctions to serve as a deterrent because we want our school environment to be safe. Teachers who expose children the way we saw in the video have no place in GES.”
