Foreign Affairs Minister assures justice for Ghanaian student who died in Latvia

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured the family of a Ghanaian student who died under mysterious circumstances in Latvia of the government’s full commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice.

The deceased, Nana Adjei, reportedly passed away in Latvia, raising concerns from both the family and the Ghanaian public.

Addressing the matter, Minister Ablakwa emphasized that the government will persist in demanding transparency and accountability from all parties involved.

He revealed that a high-level Ghanaian delegation, including family members and forensic experts, will travel to Latvia on January 20 to engage authorities and closely follow the ongoing investigations. The team will assist in determining the exact cause of death.

Minister Ablakwa assured that the investigation will be conducted with full international cooperation to guarantee credibility and fairness. He further stressed that the government is committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all Ghanaians, regardless of where they reside.

President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister disclosed, fully supports the family and has directed that every necessary diplomatic and legal measure be taken to ensure justice is served.

“No Ghanaian will be allowed to be ill-treated. We will stand firmly with the family,” Hon. Ablakwa said, reiterating that the safety and welfare of Ghanaians abroad remain a top government priority.

The Minister added that he will continue to engage with Latvian authorities and provide regular updates as the investigation progresses.
