A man believed to be in his late 20s has revealed that he intends to have many children despite being HIV positive.
According to him, he contracted the virus after using a blade that had previously been used by a woman who was HIV positive.
“I was living with my aunt a few years ago, and I used her blade to trim my fingernails. While cutting my nails, I got a cut from the blade. So I think that’s how I got the virus,” he said in an interview with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time.
He explained that after some time, he became ill and went to the hospital for medical tests, where he tested positive for HIV.
“After testing positive, I never panicked. I even told my close friends—those I really trust—that I had tested positive. They were okay with it and didn’t stigmatize me,” he said.
He revealed that he is currently in a relationship, and his partner is fully aware of his HIV status.
“I’m in a relationship, and my partner knows about my condition, but we still have sex. We always use protection, including condoms, to prevent her from getting infected. I also take my medication regularly, so it’s very difficult to transmit the virus. We also use PrEP and PEP for added protection.”
He emphasized his desire to have many children despite his condition, expressing confidence that they will be able to protect themselves and ensure the children are born HIV negative.
“I will have many children, and with the help of PrEP and PEP medication, I can have as many children as I want, and they will test negative after birth.” The man asserted.
