A 36-year-old woman has been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command over the alleged abduction of a nine-year-old girl from Agormanya Zongo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and an attempt to traffic her out of the country.
The suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after the child failed to return home.
Police investigations, led by the Odumase-Krobo District Command with support from personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) at the Kotoka International Airport, resulted in the rescue of the child before she could be flown to Kenya.
According to reports, the suspect was intercepted at the airport while attempting to travel with the minor.
She has since been arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court remanded her into police custody, with the case adjourned to May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.
The rescued child has been safely reunited with her father.
