Court adjourns Wontumi’s mining-related cases to November 12 and December 4

The two ongoing court cases involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been adjourned to November 12 and December 4, 2025.

In the first case, which concerns allegations that Wontumi permitted mining operations on his Samreboi concession without the necessary approvals, the court postponed the hearing to November 12 after the prosecution requested more time to serve the defense with all required disclosures.

The second case, involving claims that Wontumi engaged in mining activities within the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve without authorization, was adjourned to December 4 due to the presiding judge’s absence on leave.

In a related development, the Attorney General’s Department has withdrawn charges against Edward Akuoko, the General Manager of Akonta Mining, a company owned by Wontumi. Akuoko has now been listed as a prosecution witness in the ongoing trials.

The cases form part of ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities linked to Akonta Mining and its operations in forest reserves.
