The Assin Nsuaem Kyekyewere Circuit Court has sentenced a 36-year-old carpenter, Anthony Asirifi, to 10 years in prison for his role in a violent robbery in the Assin Adubiase township.
Presided over by His Lordship Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, the court found Asirifi guilty of stealing valuable items from two homes and inflicting serious injury on one of the victims during the operation. His accomplice, identified as Nana Yaw, is currently on the run.
The two reportedly broke into the residences of Samuel Osei Korankyi, an electrical engineer, and Gordon Amaglo, making away with high-value electronics and cash. Among the stolen items were an ASUS laptop valued at GH¢5,000, a Motorola mobile phone worth GH¢4,500, a Techno Pop 10 phone priced at GH¢1,500, a Dell laptop worth GH¢2,300, and a cash amount of GH¢2,570.
During the robbery, Asirifi stabbed Gordon Amaglo in the eye with a kitchen knife after he woke up and confronted the intruders. Despite the injury, Amaglo, with the help of residents, managed to overpower and apprehend Asirifi.
A police search on the suspect revealed several tools believed to have been used in the crime. These items were presented in court as evidence.
Following a full trial, the court convicted Asirifi and sentenced him to a decade behind bars. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest the fugitive accomplice.
