The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all Senior High School (SHS) heads to immediately refund any fees collected from students or parents for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) practicals.
This follows a government decision to fully absorb the cost of this year’s WASSCE practical examinations, including the provision of all necessary materials and logistics.
In a statement signed by Acting Deputy Director-General, Professor Smile Dzisi, GES emphasized that all refunds must be properly documented. School heads are required to issue official receipts for each refund and notify their respective Regional Directors once the process is complete.
GES explained that the directive is intended to relieve financial pressure on students and their families, and to ensure no student is prevented from taking the exams due to an inability to pay.
The statement further warned that any failure to comply with the directive will be treated as a serious violation of official instructions and may result in administrative sanctions.
