An early morning accident has claimed the life of an unidentified woman at Aboabo in Kumasi.
The tragic incident occurred around 6:40 AM on the Aboabo-Airport Roundabout Highway and involved a long vehicle transporting electric cables.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman—believed to be a Muslim and approximately 35 years old—was attempting to cross the road near the Fatima Farida School when she was struck by the truck.
One witness, Sarpong Kwabena Michael, told Oyerepa News Reporter, Joe Marfo, that the driver tried to swerve and avoid hitting her but was unsuccessful. The woman was hit and dragged several meters, resulting in her instant death.
The eyewitness further noted that several accidents have occurred in the area over the years, raising concerns about pedestrian safety.
Police personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), led by Inspector Justice Amoako of the Airport Police Station, responded to the scene and confirmed the woman dead on arrival.
Her body has since been conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and identification, while the driver and the vehicle are currently in custody at the Airport Police Station pending further investigation.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses are calling on the government to construct a footbridge in the area to help prevent future accidents.
