There was chaos in Gomoa Buduburam as executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and residents staged a protest against the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Margaret Naana Ackom, over her alleged attempt to relocate the proposed 24-hour market complex from Buduburam to Gomoa Akotsi.
According to the demonstrators, both President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, during their 2024 visit, pledged to develop the Buduburam Market into a 24-hour commercial hub to serve the people of Gomoa East. However, they claim the DCE is making moves to divert the project to her hometown, Gomoa Akotsi.
Speaking to the media, Buduburam Upper Ward Coordinator Joseph Anambon, insisted that residents would resist any attempt to move the project.
He emphasised that funds for the market have already been released and that the original plan must be honoured.
The Chief of Gomoa Buduburam, Nana Kojo Essel, also expressed disappointment, noting that traditional authorities had provided all the necessary documents requested by the DCE.
He accused her of attempting to play “jandam” politics to shift the project to Akotsi — a move the chiefs will not allow.
Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for the Gomoa Buduburam Electoral Area, Emmanuel Dogbe, has urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that he will not permit the relocation of the market to Gomoa Akotsi.
