Bantama MP Petitions WAEC Over Cancellation of BECE Results
The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has petitioned the Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr. Rosemond Wilson, over the cancellation of the Integrated Science results of candidates from Pentecost Private School in Abrepo in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a letter dated September 15, the MP said his action followed concerns raised by the school’s headmaster, management, parents, and affected students.
The results were initially withheld on grounds of alleged collusion, and the candidates were invited to WAEC’s Regional Office in August for inquiries. The petitioners maintain that the students wrote the paper independently and were assured that a decision would be communicated to them.
However, on September 12, the students were informed that their results had been cancelled, a decision that has left them distressed and uncertain about their educational prospects.
Mr. Asenso-Boakye has therefore urged WAEC to urgently review and reinstate the results to allow the candidates to participate in the upcoming senior high school placement exercise scheduled for September 17.
As an alternative, he proposed that the affected students be given an early opportunity to re-sit the examination.
“Given the emotional impact on the children and the looming deadlines for SHS placement, I kindly request that this matter be given your earliest and most sympathetic attention,” the petition stated.
