Afia Schwarzenegger has provided insights into the current political landscape of the major parties in Ghana – the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a social media post addressing Alan Kyerematen’s recent withdrawal from the NPP flagbearership race, Afia expressed her opinion that Alan’s diminishing political prospects were a result of his failure to cultivate support among young people.
She drew a comparison between Alan’s situation and that of former president John Mahama, whom she claimed now holds significant influence within the NDC after wresting control from the Ahwoi brothers.
To elaborate on this, Afia explained, “What makes John Mahama very powerful in the NDC, the NDC used to belong to the Ahwois, what has made John Mahama powerful in the NDC is because he built boys.”
“He built boys, he built a generation that will come and hold him high. That made John Mahama in the NDC,” she stressed.
She turned her guns onto the NPP: “The point is, who is building who in the NPP? NPP leaders are stingy, you always want to spend money you get. The Alan Cash issue must serve as a lesson to every politician because when your money cannot push you, the people you built will push you.”
Afia is a well-known advocate for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign. Throughout the years, she has consistently expressed her support for the NPP, despite having a fondness for Mahama.
In the upcoming 2024 presidential race, Mahama is the chosen candidate for the NDC, while the NPP is still in the process of selecting their flagbearer, which is scheduled for November 4th.
