President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Transport to act on a petition seeking the removal of the Shippers and Owners Association of Ghana (SOAAG) from two key maritime boards.

The petition was filed by the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG).

The IEAG is demanding that SOAAG be removed from the boards of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

In a letter dated September 16, 2026, the Presidency confirmed receipt of the petition, which was submitted on September 15, 2026.

The letter, signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, stated:

“I am directed to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 15th September, 2026, and to inform you that the petition has been duly noted and referred to the Ministry of Transport for necessary action.”

The letter was addressed to the Executive Secretary of IEAG, Samson Asaki Awingobit, in Tema.

The Presidency did not disclose the specific reasons cited by the IEAG for its demand, nor the exact action expected from the Ministry.

It, however, assured the petitioner that the matter has been formally noted and forwarded for the necessary steps.
