Afenyo-Markin calls for Bipartisan approach to address Ghana’s challenges

The Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has emphasized the need for political leaders from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to put aside their differences and work together to tackle the country’s challenges.

Speaking at the launch of the Grow Lead Foundation in Accra, Markin highlighted that the accumulation of social intervention programs, while well-intentioned, has led to abuse and contributed to the current state of affairs in Ghana.

He stressed that Ghanaians need to adopt a new mindset and prioritize national development over personal interests. He noted that the lack of patriotism and sense of entitlement among citizens is a major concern, with many individuals focusing on their own gain rather than the well-being of the nation.

The Minority Leader revealed that he had received a letter from the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) regarding defaulted loans taken out by some constituency officers who claimed their Member of Parliament had guaranteed the loans. Makin expressed his frustration, stating that he had been asked to pay the debts, despite not being the borrower.

Afenyo Markin also emphasized the need for a bipartisan approach to tackle the galamsey menace, which has had a devastating impact on the country’s environment and economy.

He questioned why political parties could not work together to address this issue, noting that the destruction caused by galamsey affects everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

Markin urged Ghanaians to come together and work towards a common goal of national development. He emphasized that the country’s leaders must set an example by putting the interests of the nation above their own personal and party interests.
