“Sarkodie saved my music career with ‘Messiah’” — Kweku Flick

Ghanaian rapper Andy Osei Sarfo, popularly known as Kweku Flick, has revealed that he was close to abandoning music after losing his father in August 2024, but a collaboration with Michael Owusu Addo, better known as Sarkodie, gave him a renewed sense of purpose.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music on November 2, 2026, the ‘Money’ hitmaker said Sarkodie’s song Messiah, which he was invited to feature on in November 2024, arrived at a time when he was seeking divine direction on whether to continue his music career.

Kweku Flick said he had prayed for a sign after his father’s death, and the opportunity to work with Sarkodie became the answer he had been hoping for.

“I lost my dad in August 2024. After everything that happened, I went on my knees and prayed to God that if He really wanted me to do music, He should show me a sign. Then, in November, I received a message with a song titled Messiah from Sarkodie,” he recounted.

He expressed appreciation to the award-winning rapper, saying the opportunity had a far greater impact on his life than Sarkodie might realise.

“I give a big shout-out to Sarkodie. The platform he gave me did a lot, and I am not even sure he knows what he has done for me,” he said.

According to him, the collaboration became a defining moment, as he might otherwise have turned his attention entirely to his mineral water business.

“I feel like that particular song has changed a lot because if it hadn’t been that song, I wouldn’t be here today. I would have been focusing on my mineral water,” he added.

Kweku Flick also explained that he developed the chorus after listening to Sarkodie’s two verses while travelling in a car. He said the song had no chorus at the time, prompting him to create a hook that would complement the rapper’s delivery.

“Immediately I listened to the song, I told myself that this is my type. I was driving in a car and I was playing it. At that moment, I got the idea and the lyrics. The song had his verse; the first and second verse but no chorus, so I had to do something that would suit the verse,” he stated.

Kweku Flick rose to prominence in 2020 with his hit song Money and has since worked with several established Ghanaian musicians. His account highlights the personal impact of Sarkodie’s collaboration at a difficult point in his life.
