DJ Slim defends curtains used at Stonebwoy’s BHIMFest

Media personality and broadcaster Daniel Dela Edem, popularly known as DJ Slim, has offered an explanation for the curtains seen covering sections of the OVO Arena Wembley during Ghanaian dancehall star Livingstone Etse Satekla, known professionally as Stonebwoy,’s BHIM Festival concert in London.

The covered sections of the 12,500-capacity arena sparked discussions online, with some social media users interpreting the arrangement as an indication that the concert failed to fill the venue.

However, speaking on Street Is Watching’, DJ Slim argued that the use of curtains at large entertainment venues does not necessarily mean an event failed to attract an audience. He explained that organisers can restrict access to certain sections depending on ticket sales and the expected crowd, while also using the curtains to enhance sound and stage production.

Reading from information obtained through a Google search, DJ Slim said curtains can help control sound reflections in large auditoriums.

“It’s for acoustics. Large, empty rooms, especially the OVO, cause echoes. So, for acoustic purposes, heavy fabric curtains absorb sound waves and reduce reverberation, which helps make music and vocals sound much clearer,” he said.

He further maintained that the covered areas were not suddenly closed after ticket sales but had been excluded from the available seating arrangement from the beginning, suggesting that the organisers deliberately configured the venue for the event.

DJ Slim also pointed to the role of dark curtains in concert production, particularly in helping lighting and visuals appear sharper for audiences.

“For lighting reasons. Anyone who is into production knows this thing. There is a reason why they use dark fabrics; it causes infinity and makes the subject in focus much clearer for fans who are sometimes several metres away,” he added.

Stonebwoy’s August 15, 2026 performance marked a significant milestone in his international career, as he became the first Ghanaian artiste to headline a concert at the OVO Arena Wembley. The BHIM Festival brought together Ghanaian and African music stars, including Kwabena Kwabena, Tiwa Savage, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, Ofori Amponsah, DopeNation, Juma Jux and Samini.

While the sight of covered sections has generated debate over the actual turnout, DJ Slim’s explanation shifts the conversation towards the technical and production considerations involved in staging a concert at a major arena. The controversy, however, is unlikely to end soon, as questions about attendance and the decision to block off sections continue to circulate among fans and critics.
