‘He threw away my CD’ —Olivetheboy’s father accuses Okraku-Mantey

Reverend Bonsu, the father of Ghanaian Afrobeats star Olivetheboy and a minister of the Presbyterian Church, has shared an experience he says left a lasting impact on him during his early attempts to pursue music.

Speaking in a video shared on X, Reverend Bonsu alleged that former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku-Mantey, discarded a demo CD he had submitted for review.

According to him, he had recorded a song and, on the advice of his uncle, delivered a copy of the demo to Okraku-Mantey’s office at Circle in the Greater Accra Region for assessment.

Recalling the incident, Reverend Bonsu claimed that after listening to the CD, Okraku-Mantey removed it from the player and threw it away.

“I don’t think Mark Okraku-Mantey will remember this. I recorded a demo, and my uncle advised me to submit it to him. So, I took the CD to his office at Circle. After listening to the CD, he removed it from the player and threw it away,” he alleged.

The Presbyterian minister said the incident left him disappointed and emotionally affected.

“After he threw away the CD, I became very sad. It really affected me that day. I don’t think he would even recognise me now,” he added.

Reverend Bonsu is the father of Olivetheboy, whose real name is Joel Ofori Bonsu. The musician has previously spoken about the challenges he faced in gaining his father’s approval to pursue a career in music. While Reverend Bonsu initially opposed the decision because of his religious background, he later became one of his son’s strongest supporters and has since embraced his musical career.
