The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has announced plans to carry out a targeted enforcement exercise in the Greater Accra Region this week, aimed at addressing irregular migration and assisting vulnerable individuals.
In a media notice dated April 14, the Service disclosed that the operation will include a street sweep across selected locations. It, however, withheld details of the specific areas to safeguard operational integrity and ensure the safety of vulnerable persons.
According to the GIS, the exercise will focus on rescuing vulnerable groups—particularly children and individuals engaged in exploitative begging—while also identifying and apprehending unregistered immigrants in line with Ghana’s immigration laws.
The Service noted that the initiative builds on lessons from previous operations and forms part of its broader mandate to enhance public safety and enforce immigration regulations.
“This operation reflects our commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, combating human trafficking, and maintaining orderly public spaces,” the statement said.
The notice, signed by Maud Anima Quainoo of the Public Affairs Department, indicated that a comprehensive media briefing will be provided after the exercise.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by authorities to curb street begging and human trafficking, especially in urban centres such as Accra.
