The Kade District Court has fined five individuals GH¢1,800 each, with an alternative sentence of six months’ imprisonment, for their roles in the assault of a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School (KASTEC) in the Eastern Region.
The ruling was delivered on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, by the presiding judge, His Worship David Ofori, after the court found the accused guilty of attacking Michael Quayson, a teacher at the school.
Those convicted are Felix Darquah, Isaac Baah, Richmond Yeboah, Edward Baah and Maxwell Kwasi Antwi. Each was ordered to pay the fine or serve a six-month custodial sentence in default.
In a related development, another suspect, Kingsley Baah, who reportedly went into hiding following the incident, has since been arrested. He was subsequently arraigned before the court and remanded into prison custody for two weeks to aid ongoing investigations.
In delivering the judgment, the court cautioned the convicts against engaging in acts of violence in the future and underscored the need for peace, discipline and respect for the rule of law, especially within educational institutions.
Reacting to the verdict, the Kade Zonal Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Edward Osae Asare, welcomed the decision, describing it as a strong deterrent against indiscipline among students. He said the ruling sends a clear signal that assaults on teachers will not be tolerated and should reinforce respect for educators carrying out their duties.
