Family of late Samuel Aboagye seeks DNA test to confirm Daughter’s paternity

The family of the late Samuel Aboagye, former Deputy National Director of NADMO and ex-NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, has petitioned the Obuasi Magistrate Court to request a DNA test to confirm the paternity of his daughter.

The Bretua family of Adansi Kwapia has asked that the late Aboagye’s widow present the child for testing, citing her refusal to comply with earlier requests, which they say has raised questions about the girl’s parentage.

Speaking to Oyerepa FM, Nana Kwabena Gyamra Yiakwan, Adansikwapiahene and spokesperson for the Bretua family, stated that concerns about the child’s paternity were expressed by the late Aboagye years before his death.

“The late Samuel Aboagye expressed concerns about the child’s parentage long before his death. Since he passed away, the wife has repeatedly declined DNA testing. We simply want the truth, and a DNA test is the only way to confirm it,” Nana Kwabena Gyamra Yiakwan said.

The family noted that the issue has gained urgency following the helicopter crash that claimed Mr. Aboagye’s life, emphasizing that DNA testing is crucial not only for confirming paternity but also for verifying victims’ identities.

They insist that DNA testing remains the only reliable method to resolve the matter and clarify the true identity of the late deputy’s daughter.

Samuel Aboagye was among eight distinguished Ghanaians who died in the Z-9 Air Force helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District on August 6, 2025. Other victims included Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manean Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The tragedy left the nation in mourning and has added urgency to the Bretua family’s call for clarity through DNA testing.
