Police arrest man over Viral Video threatening violence against public officials
The Ghana Police Service has arrested David Kwodwo Prah Afful, who was seen in a viral video issuing threats of violent attacks against national leaders, parliamentarians, journalists, government workers, and members of the public.
According to a police statement, the suspect was picked up on Saturday, September 13, 2025, after sustained intelligence operations. He is currently in custody and will be arraigned before court.
In the widely circulated video, Afful threatened to use a machete or firearm to carry out attacks, while calling on members of the public to join him in targeting state institutions and destroying property.
Police said his arrest followed coordinated intelligence work that tracked his movements and activities after the video surfaced online. Authorities emphasized that swift action was taken to prevent any escalation or copycat incidents.
“The Service takes any public incitement to violence very seriously,” the statement noted, adding that investigations are underway to determine the suspect’s motive and whether he acted alone.
The Police further cautioned the public against sharing or amplifying material that could inflame tensions and urged anyone with relevant information to assist with ongoing investigations.
Security agencies have recently intensified monitoring of social media platforms to identify content that may incite unrest.
The statement reiterated the Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that individuals who threaten public safety face the full rigors of the law.
