MASLOC recovers government vehicles from Wontumi, others – CEO confirms
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, says the Centre has retrieved three government vehicles from the residence of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking on Citi FM on Wednesday, September 10, Mensah explained that the operation, carried out with the support of National Security operatives, was part of a broader campaign to recover state assets and outstanding loans from defaulters.
“I went with National Security operatives to the house of the NPP Chairman in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Out of five vehicles, we retrieved three, and we’re still pursuing him for the remaining two. He has to pay for them,” she revealed.
The MASLOC boss clarified that under the Centre’s procedures, individuals who default on payments or misuse state vehicles are required to either return the assets or settle their debts.
“What we do is that once I seize the cars, the agreement is that you repay whatever amount is due before the vehicles are released back to you,” she said.
Mensah further disclosed that several incidents of asset misappropriation have been reported to the police to safeguard public property.
She cited another case involving a relative of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who allegedly refused to hand over a government-issued Nissan Urvan after acquiring a new vehicle.
“I have a situation where a brother of former Vice President Seidu Imoro picked a car and boldly said he has used it for work and bought his own, so if we want it, we can come for it. We’ve since seized it,” she recounted.
According to her, the recovery drive is a key step in ensuring accountability and protecting state resources.
