Government has averted looming power crisis – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has declared that his administration has successfully averted a potential power crisis through what he described as prudent, economically focused policies.

Speaking at his first Presidential Media Encounter on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the president said deliberate steps were taken to stabilise the energy sector and prevent the recurrence of dumsor, the nationwide power outages that crippled the economy in previous years.

He explained that the sector was on the brink of collapse when his government assumed office but credited timely interventions for ensuring consistent electricity supply across the country.

“The stability of the energy sector is critical to sustaining economic growth, boosting investor confidence, and improving the living conditions of Ghanaians,” he stressed.

The president also outlined broader measures aimed at supporting businesses and households, including tax reforms and policies to strengthen the cedi. He said these reforms had reduced the cost of doing business and helped ease the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

“Through our prudent and people-centred economic management plan, we have slashed nuisance taxes, rescued our power sector, averted the ‘dumsor’ crisis we inherited, lowered the exchange rate, and eased the burden of doing business while reducing the cost of living for the average Ghanaian,” Mahama said.

President Mahama assured Ghanaians that his government is committed to consolidating these gains while pursuing further reforms to secure sustainable economic recovery.

“Our focus remains on stabilising the economy and ensuring that every Ghanaian feels the benefits of this progress in their daily lives,” he added.
