Adu-Boahene Remains in Custody Amid New Arrest
Former Director of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, remains in police custody despite the expiration of a seven-working-day remand order initially issued by the court.
Mr. Adu-Boahene, who faces charges including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state, was first remanded on Friday, May 2, over allegations of witness tampering related to a GH¢49.1 million cybersecurity procurement scandal.
However, during a court session on Tuesday, May 13, his legal counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, revealed that the former security official was rearrested shortly after the initial remand period expired. The new arrest is reportedly linked to a separate investigation.
“I’ve been informed that it concerns secured internet services provided for another state institution, the Ghana Water Company,” Mr. Atta Akyea told the court. “National security had supplied them with devices that allowed remote monitoring of pipelines to detect tampering and other issues.”
Although details regarding the new arrest remain limited, the Attorney General had earlier confirmed that Adu-Boahene was under investigation for a case involving the supply of internet connectivity equipment to Ghana Water Limited.
In the ongoing trial, the court has adjourned the matter to May 26, 2025, for a case management conference. The prosecution has filed all witness statements and is expected to make full disclosure to the defense by May 20.
