Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reflected on his journey in Parliament, recounting his rise from a backbencher to his current role as Ghana’s Finance Minister.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, Dr. Forson emphasized that the experience he has gained over the years in the legislative chamber has prepared him for the challenges of managing the country’s economy.
“Standing here evokes a sense of nostalgia as I reflect on my journey in public service. From my early days as a young parliamentarian in this House in 2009, destiny has guided my path—from a backbencher to a member of the Finance Committee, to Deputy Minister of Finance, to Ranking Member of the Finance Committee, to Minority Leader, briefly Majority Leader, and now, Mr. Speaker, as Minister responsible for finance,” he stated.
He acknowledged the invaluable lessons learned in Parliament, which have shaped his leadership and strengthened his ability to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges.
“The experience I gained in this chamber has shaped my perspective, sharpened my focus, and prepared me for the tasks at hand,” he added.
Dr. Forson reaffirmed his commitment to working with the President to stabilize and improve Ghana’s economy, assuring Ghanaians that the budget seeks to address their hopes and aspirations while providing a comprehensive assessment of the nation’s economic outlook.
“I fully commit to supporting the President to fix Ghana’s economy. I take this opportunity to extend my profound gratitude to my constituents, to you, Mr. Speaker, and to members of this House across the aisle for your unwavering support throughout my years,” he said.
The 2025 Budget is expected to outline key policies aimed at addressing economic challenges and promoting national development.
