Ghanaian artist Armstrong Affum, known by his stage name Opanka, has expressed his deep connection to the issues facing Ghana, particularly the ongoing Dumsor crisis, despite currently residing in the US.
During a conversation with Amansan Krakye, Opanka explained that his motivation for creating the Dumsor Demonstration track stemmed from his strong ties to Ghana and his intention to return to his homeland.
He stated, “True leadership is about prioritizing the needs of those you lead. My commitment extends beyond personal interests to the welfare of the entire nation, which inspired the ‘Dumsor Demonstration’ song,” he elaborated.
Opanka further expressed his attachment to his Ghanaian citizenship, referring to Ghana as his home. He clarified that his journey to the US was temporary, primarily for a few performances and a project.
“My stay here is temporary, and I intend to resume my endeavors in Ghana. The challenges faced there resonate with me, as my roots and family are still entrenched in the country.
“The well-being of my family, supporters, and fellow Ghanaians weighs heavily on me. Personal comfort does not equate to happiness when my people are in distress.”
