Simon Opoku Afriyie, a journalist based in Kumas, has generously supported numerous school-age children in Manso Muawano, located in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Opoku Afriyie, who is not only a news reporter for Otec FM but also the CEO of Choice News Online, donated exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and mathematical sets to hundreds of students in the community.
The purpose of this philanthropic act was to inspire young children to work hard in their studies and to assist their parents and guardians who were facing financial difficulties and desperately needed assistance.
In addition to his support for the children, Mr Opoku Afriyie has been providing aid to elderly widows and widowers in Muawano for the past three years. He has organized various initiatives, including free health screenings for hundreds of residents in the community and its surrounding areas.
During an interview with the media, Mr Opoku Afriyie expressed his desire to witness the emergence of brilliant students from his hometown of Manso Muawano. He hopes that these students will grow up to develop the area and positively impact the lives of many others.
Taking advantage of the occasion, the journalist appealed to the government, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Yaw Frimpong Addo, and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Clement Opoku Gyamfi, to assist the Muawano community in constructing classroom blocks.
Currently, the students have to travel long distances to neighbouring communities in order to access education, which hinders their learning progress. Mr. Opoku Afriyie believes that the construction of classroom blocks will greatly enhance teaching and learning in the area.
Furthermore, he passionately urged the government to construct mechanized boreholes in the community to address the water crisis. Currently, the community only has one functioning borehole, which poses a significant problem.
