Mr. John Bewuah Edusei, the vice president of the Confederation for the Development of Poultry in Africa (CADA), is calling on the government to show much interest in agriculture as the world’s population is expected to increase.
The current world population of 7.6 billion is expected to reach 8.6 billion in 2030, 9.8 billion in 2050, and 11.2 billion in 2100, according to United Nations report.
Speaking at the press conference, the vice president of CADA said it is time for Ghana to take proactive measures to provide enough food in the future to avoid famine.
“My sincere advice to the ministry of food and agriculture. The time has come for us as a nation to stop playing games and politics with agriculture; otherwise, very soon we will have no alternative but to go through hunger and famine.”
He indicated, however, that the collapse of the poultry industry would lead to job losses.
“My greatest worry is the job losses. The collapse of the poultry industry will result in job losses in the country. Many of the poultry farmers have laid off their workers. I, for insistence, had 57 workers, but I have laid them off, leaving me with 7 workers. The poultry industry has the ability to create more than one million jobs in the country.” He lamented.
