The mere mention of the Students Loan Trust Fund (S. L. T. F.) comes with mixed feelings. While those who benefitted from this loan fund had to go through hustle and tussle to refund this, others did not have the opportunity to benefit from this fund, after all the stress and struggle too, but then those still paying up tell the story of it being like pulling a hair from your nose. This picture has created an ill-feeling about the SLTF.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Fund has disclosed that the President of the Republic has put a measure in place to improve and make the Social Intervention Programme attractive come 2021.
Speaking with Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah told Nana Jantuah that the President also has plans of indicating Colleges of Education into the Fund.
Answering who qualifies to apply for the loan, he said, “You should be a Ghanaian with a National Identity Card, SSNIT Card, Student ID Card, etc.” He added that for now, it is being given to Undergraduate Programmes students, but then it is not monies which is given to them for free.
“We reclaimed Ghc16.4million in 2016, but then we reclaimed about 36.7million in 2019, which is an appreciation, ” Mr. Agyei Yeboah revealed.
He indicated that students outside Ghana pay via visa card.
Speaking further, he talked about declaring the month of May as ‘Recovery month’, and also training staff in a programme which was conducted dubbed ‘Recovery training and Data analysis’.
