Mr Otuo Acheampong, also known as Sometymer, a sports journalist, believes President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Black Star camp in Qatar ahead of the Portugal match is unnecessary.
President Akufo-Addo has left Ghana for Qatar ahead of Ghana’s opening game against Portugal at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
The president is expected to meet and motivate the technical team and the playing body before today’s opener.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the renowned sports journalist questioned the reason for the president’s visit to Qatar.
“What is the president going to do there?” “Usually, what most presidents do is that they speak with the players via Zoom.” Joe Biden spoke with US players on Zoom.
“Perhaps the president has something to do there, and he would just pass by; if not, he doesn’t have to be there; he can inspire them on Zoom; it’s not necessary for him to be there,” Sometymer told Kwesi Parker-Wilson, host of the show.
The Black Stars are in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
Ghanaian soccer fans are looking forward to Thursday’s clash against Portugal, one of the teams tipped by pundits to make it to the round of 16 from the group.
