The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its intention to challenge the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency.
According to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate won the December 7, 2024, election with 34,613 votes, defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, who garnered 34,199 votes.
The NPP argues that the EC’s decision to rerun the election in the 19 polling stations is arbitrary and poses a serious threat to Ghana’s democratic principles. The party insists that the will of the people, as reflected in the results, must be respected.
In response, the NPP has directed its legal team to file a challenge in court, expressing confidence that the judiciary will uphold the democratic rights and sovereignty of the people.
Despite expressing concerns about alleged judicial intimidation and victimisation, the party remains optimistic that a fair and impartial judgment will prevail. “We believe that when the truth is told, justice will be served, and our parliamentary candidate will be rightfully declared the winner,” Kodua stated.
The NPP further emphasised its unwavering commitment to defending the democratic will of the electorate and ensuring that justice is delivered through lawful means.
This legal challenge reflects the party’s broader resolve to uphold electoral integrity and protect the interests of its supporters across the country.
