WAEC sanctions Ekumfi T.I Ahmadiya SHS over alleged exam malpractice
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has sanctioned Ekumfi T.I Ahmadiya Senior High School in the Central Region following allegations of examination malpractice during the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
As part of the sanctions, WAEC has directed that candidates from the school will no longer write their remaining examination papers on campus. They have instead been relocated to Mankessim Senior High Technical School, where the exams will be supervised by a new set of invigilators and examination officials.
The decision comes after two teachers from the school were reportedly arrested over their alleged involvement in compromising the French Paper 1 examination.
In a letter issued by WAEC’s Central Regional Office to school authorities, the Council stated that it had lost confidence in the school’s ability to conduct the examinations without the risk of malpractice, necessitating the relocation of the examination centre.
WAEC further instructed the school’s management to arrange transportation for all affected candidates to the new venue to ensure the smooth continuation of the examinations.
The Council also directed that examination materials be transported from the depot under police escort to maintain strict security and safeguard the integrity of the process.
However, WAEC noted that the Chemistry 3 Alternative A practical examination will still be conducted on the premises of Ekumfi T.I Ahmadiya Senior High School.
