The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in the Bono East Region after a routine patrol led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected narcotic substances.
The Bono East Regional Police Command, in a statement issued on Monday, April 27, said the arrests took place on Saturday, April 26, 2026, at Kintampo.
The suspects, identified as 42-year-old Sadic Wemah and 39-year-old Senbeti Karim, were apprehended while travelling in an unregistered white Toyota Highlander along the New Longoro–Weila section of the Kintampo–New Longoro road.
According to police, officers from the New Longoro Police Station intercepted the vehicle at about 12:40 p.m. during a routine patrol. A search conducted at the scene uncovered two sacks containing 166 parcels of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis.
The suspects were immediately arrested and subsequently transferred to the Kintampo Divisional Criminal Investigations Department for further questioning.
During interrogation, the two men reportedly admitted ownership of the substances, indicating that they were cannabis. They also told investigators that the consignment had been purchased from a supplier identified only as “Edem,” also known as “Confirm.”
They further disclosed that the supplier transports cannabis from the Volta Region through Tamale before distributing it to buyers. The suspects said they picked up the consignment at a filling station near the new market area in Kintampo.
Police have estimated the street value of the seized substances at approximately GH¢107,000. The suspects were allegedly transporting the drugs to Banda Nkwanta in the Bono Region for resale.
They have since been cautioned and remain in police custody assisting with investigations. The suspected cannabis and the unregistered vehicle have been retained as exhibits.
The Bono East Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
