Six Security Guards Arrested Over Shooting Incident Involving Adwoa Safo at Kwabenya
The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026, which left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, with a gunshot wound to her left ear.
According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, a subsequent search operation led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
Police said officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on a special assignment, responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya where the incident occurred.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, popularly known as Akofena, when Adwoa Safo arrived and sought entry to the premises. She was reportedly denied access.
The police stated that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the ensuing confrontation, resulting in injuries to the former legislator. Investigators also discovered multiple gunshot marks on her vehicle.
The six suspects, together with the weapons and other exhibits retrieved, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police say efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the incident.
