Government Imposes Curfew on Communities in Nkwanta South Municipality

The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has imposed a curfew on several communities within the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The curfew takes effect on Friday, June 19, 2026, and will be enforced daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

The affected communities include Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.

According to the government, the measure forms part of efforts to maintain law and order and safeguard lives and property in the affected areas.

Authorities have appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies as they work to restore peace and stability.

The government also encouraged residents to channel their concerns through lawful and peaceful means, emphasizing the need for dialogue and mutual understanding in resolving disputes.

Officials expressed confidence that the cooperation of community members and stakeholders would help create a conducive environment for lasting peace and security within the municipality.
