Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has praised President John Mahama’s delivery at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York but raised concerns about its relevance to Ghana’s domestic challenges.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Adam described the address as impressive, commending the President’s ability to articulate key global issues.
“President Mahama’s address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly was truly commendable, particularly his insights on pressing global issues such as immigration, financing for development, the Middle East conflict, and climate change,” he wrote.
According to him, Mahama’s poise and depth of analysis reinforced his stature on the world stage.
However, the former Finance Minister questioned how such global perspectives translate into solutions for Ghana’s ongoing difficulties.
“It’s important how such a well-articulated vision and approach to international development translates to national development in Ghana, particularly as the reset economy is not resetting, whilst galamsey is out of control and free speech is being murdered,” he stated.
Despite these concerns, Dr. Adam ended on an optimistic note, urging that the President apply the same leadership values he displayed internationally to Ghana’s governance.
“Let’s hope his leadership principles and global perspectives inform his decision-making for the benefit of Ghana’s development. Best wishes to you, Mr. President,” he concluded.
