After more than a decade without a traditional leader, the people of Anyinam in Obuasi have finally installed a new chief, Nana Okyere Amoabeng II, marking the end of a 12-year chieftaincy vacancy.
The installation ceremony, led by the family head, Nana Kwamoah Bosompem, was welcomed with joy and high expectations by residents who have long yearned for leadership to spearhead the town’s development.
In his address, Nana Okyere Amoabeng II emphasised that the absence of a chief had significantly hindered Anyinam’s growth, especially in terms of employment and access to opportunities at the nearby Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.
“For more than a decade, we have lacked proper representation to advocate for the town’s needs. Many youths remain unemployed and miss out on job opportunities from the Obuasi Mine,” he said.
Despite the leadership vacuum, Nana Okyere Amoabeng II personally contributed to the town’s progress, including the establishment of a community centre.
However, he believes that with his official installation, more meaningful and sustained development can now be achieved.
Among his key plans are the modernisation of the town’s old and dilapidated market, which he described as unfit for purpose, and strategic engagement with Anglogold Ashanti to seek developmental support for the area.
Welcoming the new chief, the Assembly Member for Anyinam, Hon. Solomon Amoako Acheampong, described the chieftaincy vacancy as a long-standing issue he inherited upon assuming office.
“This has been a major concern for years. The absence of a chief denied us access to several development initiatives. With Nana Okyere Amoabeng II now in place, we are hopeful that Anyinam will attract more projects and investments,” he said.
He added that the presence of a recognised traditional leader would strengthen collaboration between the community, local authorities, and corporate stakeholders, thereby accelerating development in key areas such as job creation and infrastructure.
With renewed hope, the people of Anyinam are looking forward to a new era of progress, unity, and opportunities under the leadership of Nana Okyere Amoabeng II.
