The Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Baah Acheamfour has refuted claims that some members of the party have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I have heard that, after coming here the last time, they claimed the people of Abesewa don’t like Yakubu. I heard them say close to one hundred and twenty-five (125) or ninety-five (95) NDC members have defected to NPP. Is it true?” Baah Acheamfour quizzed, and the people responded “No”.

Reports emerged during Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s campaign tour in the Ashanti Region that he welcomed 95 National Democratic Congress (NDC) members into the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The reports alleged that one Mohammed Alhassan led the group of defectors.

However, Baah Acheamfour has vehemently denied these claims.

He has accused the NPP of orchestrating a deception, stating that they dressed their supporters in NDC colours and presented them as defective members of the NDC.

“They came and gathered their party people and clothed them to look like they are from the NDC. But that is false.” We’re from the NDC, we won’t say anything but will wait for the result from the December polls to let them know whether people joined them truly.”Acheamfour dismissed the stunt, saying.

According to him, some members NPP members defect to the NDC daily but the party does not publicise it.

“All of us here know the number of NPP members who join the NDC daily but we do not telecast it because we know how vibrant the NDC is in this community.”

Baah Acheamfour said this during a community engagement at Abesewa in the Ahafo Ano South East constituency of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday 27, August 2024.

The NDC scribe also charged supporters of his party and asked them to vote overwhelmingly for John Mahama and Mr Yakubu Mohammed their parliamentary candidate in the December polls.
