Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully rescued a newborn baby boy who was abandoned in a public toilet at Kwameduakrom, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred around 11:29 p.m. after local residents heard cries coming from the latrine and promptly alerted the Obuasi Fire Station. Firefighters responded swiftly and launched a coordinated rescue operation.
Against all odds, the baby was pulled out alive from the pit latrine and was found to be in stable condition. Community members stepped in to assist by cleaning the baby as they waited for emergency medical personnel to arrive.
The infant was later handed over to health officials for further medical examination and care.
While the circumstances surrounding the abandonment remain unclear, police are expected to begin investigations into the matter.
Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Alex King Nartey, confirmed the incident and praised the rescue team for their courage and quick response.
He commended the firefighters for their dedication and selfless service, which helped save the life of the newborn.
