A 32-year-old man from Ghana’s Northern Region, Mayemoh Gyangamo, is seeking a refund of GH¢70,000 from his former girlfriend, Maakua, a native of Asante Bekwai, after a DNA test allegedly showed he is not the biological father of her daughter, Patricia Donkor.
The issue was brought to public attention during an episode of Oyerepa Afutuo.
Speaking on the programme, Gyangamo detailed what he described as the significant financial commitments he made after Maakua became pregnant. He claimed that her family demanded multiple payments, including an upfront amount of GH¢7,500, which he said was collected by her father.
“If the child is not mine, then I want back everything I spent,” Gyangamo said, alleging that a total of about GH¢8,000 was taken by Maakua’s father, including additional items he purchased for the family.
He further stated that medical and related expenses during the pregnancy and childbirth exceeded GH¢50,000, with other costs pushing the total amount spent to roughly GH¢70,000. According to him, he alone spent about GH¢33,000 on the child’s naming ceremony.
Gyangamo also disclosed that Maakua underwent surgery during delivery, for which he said he paid GH¢2,500. He added that he gave her GH¢3,000 to buy baby items, another GH¢1,000 as support, and funds he claimed were intended for an attempted abortion during the pregnancy. He also mentioned buying her a mobile phone.
The man further alleged that Maakua later told him she was a royal and therefore could not continue the relationship after giving birth. He expressed frustration over what he described as unfair treatment by her family, accusing them of wasting his time and resources.
Insisting he will not compromise, Gyangamo maintains that he is entitled to a full refund of all monies he claims to have spent following the pregnancy.
