M.anifest sparks debate after questioning KFC anniversary rush

Ghanaian rapper and songwriter Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, popularly known as M.anifest, has triggered a heated debate online after questioning the decision by customers to spend hours in queues during KFC Ghana’s 15th anniversary promotion.

The August 15 promotion attracted large crowds to KFC outlets across the country, with customers seeking discounted meals. The turnout, however, also resulted in long queues, traffic congestion and extended waiting times at several branches.

Reacting to the scenes on X, M.anifest wondered whether the savings from the promotion justified the time, fuel and inconvenience involved.

“Time is money. Hours of your life spent in a long line and chaos just to get discount named brand fast food. Even more bizarre are the air-conditioned cars in line for eons burning expensive fuel. The math is not mathing. But last last yɛ diɛ oho bɛ tɔ wɔ,” he posted.

His remarks quickly drew mixed reactions, with some social media users agreeing that the time spent waiting could outweigh the financial benefit of the discount.

Others, however, pushed back, arguing that entertainment and personal enjoyment are also matters of choice. Some users pointed to the crowds that regularly endure traffic and lengthy queues to attend concerts featuring M.anifest and other musicians.

They argued that just as a music fan may consider travelling several hours and paying for a concert worthwhile despite having access to songs online, another person can reasonably decide that waiting for a heavily discounted meal is worth it.

The controversy has therefore shifted from KFC’s promotion to a broader question of how people value their time, money and experiences.

Ultimately, M.anifest’s observation has sparked a conversation over whether a good bargain is measured only by the money saved—or also by what one sacrifices to get it.
