Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has requested to attend a scheduled interrogation with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) virtually, citing ill health.
According to Frank Davies, Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ofori-Atta will not be physically present in Ghana as previously arranged. His legal team has formally communicated this to the OSP and submitted the necessary medical documentation to support the request.
Davies also confirmed that the development has been brought to the attention of the Human Rights Court.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was expected to appear before the OSP on Monday, June 2, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations into corruption-related matters involving the former minister.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, had on February 12, 2025, declared Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted in connection with four major corruption probes. The OSP further labeled him a “fugitive from justice,” sparking public and legal controversy.
In response, Mr. Ofori-Atta has rejected the claims, calling the declaration unlawful. On March 15, 2025, he filed a motion at the Accra High Court seeking to restrain the OSP from describing him as a “wanted person” and “fugitive.” He is also demanding that the OSP remove all related statements from its official social media platforms.
The OSP is contesting the motion, and the case is scheduled for a ruling on June 18, 2025, at the Accra High Court.
As the legal battle continues, today’s request for a virtual appearance adds another twist to a case that has attracted national attention.
