Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako—popularly known as Chairman Wontumi—has withdrawn a motion filed at the High Court in Accra challenging the bail conditions imposed on him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The motion, originally filed on May 30, 2025, was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, June 3. However, Wontumi’s legal team formally withdrew the application a day earlier, on Monday, June 2.
The motion had sought a review of the GH¢50 million bail set by EOCO, with his lawyers arguing that the sum was excessive and could hinder his release from custody.
Chairman Wontumi has been in EOCO custody since May 27, 2025, over allegations of multiple criminal offences, including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
According to Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai, ongoing investigations have entered a second phase, with new evidence reportedly linking the NPP regional chairman to a broader international organised crime network.
The case continues to attract significant public interest as legal proceedings unfold and investigations deepen.
