Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, says he has no intention of leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite ongoing efforts by the party to remove him from its ranks.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng insisted that those he describes as “fake elements” within the party are the ones who should exit, not him.
“I am not leaving the party,” he declared. “They should leave the party. They are the fake ones. They should go away so the true party can stand.”
His comments come amid reports that the NPP has initiated processes to expel him following his recent public criticisms of the party’s internal conduct and leadership direction.
On January 12, 2026, during an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and suggested that he no longer considered himself a member. He also alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primaries were manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In response, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, issued a statement condemning the remarks as “highly reprehensible” and inconsistent with the party’s values, integrity and unity. The party rejected the claim that it is “fake” and dismissed the allegations of rigging as baseless.
Despite the backlash, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng has defended his stance, saying his criticisms are driven by a commitment to the founding principles of the NPP rather than personal interests.
According to him, his loyalty remains with the ideals on which the party was built, and he believes certain individuals currently within the party are undermining those values.
