Hajia4Real apologises to Ashantis over controversial remarks

Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Real, has finally apologized after making controversial comments about the genetics and physical appearance of Ashanti people during a TikTok live session with fans.

During the livestream, Hajia4Real discussed regional beauty standards in Ghana, claiming that, historically, Northern men were intentionally brought into Ashanti communities to intermarry and have children with them in order to produce a generation of handsome, tall, and attractive men. According to her, many people outside Ghana admire her beauty and become surprised when she tells them she is from the Northern part of Ghana. She went on to credit Northerners for the tall and attractive men found in the Ashanti Region.

Her comments sparked significant backlash from the public, with critics describing them as ethnocentric, divisive, and insulting to the history and heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom.

Following the intense public criticism and outrage, Mona formally apologized for her remarks, describing them as a “jovial comment” that was never intended to cause harm, while also asking for forgiveness.

She said, “Regarding the video, I am sorry. Please forgive me. I truly love the Ashantis. Trust me, if you follow me, you will know that I visit Kumasi often. Sometimes, I go there just to eat fufu before returning to Accra. I love Kumasi. I did not mean to say it that way, so I am sorry if anyone felt offended by my previous comments.”

While some netizens remain dissatisfied with her apology — especially due to her past conviction and allegations linking her to the divorce saga of billionaire Richard Nii Armah Quaye — others believe she should not have been pressured to apologize, insisting that her comments reflected her personal opinion.
