The Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyeahene, has commissioned and handed over seven mechanized boreholes to five communities in the Gomoa West District to address the growing water crisis caused by illegal mining activities (galamsey) on the River Ayensu.
The beneficiary communities include Gomoa Wassa, Gomoa Nkran, Gomoa Akwakrom, Gomoa Penanko, and Gomoa Nduem, all within the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.
Nana Kwesi Essel, who also serves as the Nimdek3sehene of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council and Director of Onua Francis and Young Executive School, highlighted the importance of giving back to one’s community. He urged well-to-do Ghanaians to return to their hometowns and contribute to local development, emphasizing that “government alone cannot do everything.”
The District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Hon. Mohammed Alhaji Kassim, commended Nana Kwesi Essel for his immense contribution to community development. He revealed that although the assembly had planned to drill 10 boreholes across the district, the Gyasehene alone had already provided seven of them to five communities.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Kow Arkoh Ansah V, called on chiefs within the Gomoa area to avoid chieftaincy disputes and work together in unity for the development of their communities.
