“My mother never remarried after my dad’s death” – Veekee James reveals

Nigerian fashion designer and entrepreneur Victoria James, popularly known as Veekee James, has shared an emotional account of how her mother dedicated herself to raising her children after the death of her husband.

Speaking on a podcast, the award-winning designer revealed that her mother never pursued another relationship following her father’s passing, choosing instead to focus on providing care and guidance for her children.

“Until today, I’ve never seen my mother with any man. Not even once have I seen her dating a man. The only one time that I saw one man trying to talk to her, I don’t know what happened, but it just ended,” she said.

Veekee James explained that her mother turned down the possibility of remarriage when the issue was raised by a church leader after her husband’s death, as she wanted to devote her energy to her children.

“Since I lost my dad until today, my mum has never slept out of the house except for a night vigil that we would be going to. I remember when my dad passed, one of our pastors in church asked her if she was going to remarry, but she said no. She said she wanted to give her life to raising her children,” she recounted.

The fashion entrepreneur also credited her mother, who is a tailor, for working hard to support the family and for introducing her to the basics of fashion design.

“She obviously hustled and there’s no one in my area who doesn’t know my mum. She’s a designer too and I learnt the basics of tailoring from her,” she added.

Veekee James, known for creating luxury bridal and celebrity outfits, said her mother’s strength and values had a major influence on her and her siblings, shaping the people they have become today.

“I believe that the kind of person she was when we were growing up also impacted us. She was raising three children, so I thought she was supposed to be following a man to support, but she didn’t. Who a person is, raising a child, is also very important,” she stated.
