GN Bank ready to reopen: Dr. Nduom says first branch will return to Elmina by end of July

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, CEO of Group Nduom, says GN Bank is fully prepared to resume operations. He announced plans to reopen the bank’s first branch in Elmina immediately after its banking license is restored by the end of July.

Speaking at a press conference today, Dr. Nduom stated: “The first branch we open is going to be in Elmina at Esuachi. That’s my building — my grandfather’s house — so nobody can quarrel with me over it. If you go there today, you’ll find workers fixing electrical issues and working on pavement and docks. Everything that’s required is being done. From Elmina we’ll move to Asylum Down. That one is also our own building.”

He added that GN Bank is ready to restart, restore jobs, and bring back investments once the license is returned. “We get our license back, we will go out there and restart, bring our business back, bring the jobs back, bring the investment back. We intend to honor that promise because we can.”

According to Dr. Nduom, preparations have been ongoing since 2019. Former employees have been identified, and buildings not under receivership have been maintained. The bank plans to begin with about 10 branches where there are no legal disputes and where minimal rehabilitation is needed.

He also noted that several landlords who previously rented premises to GN Bank have been reaching out, asking to be included in the reopening phase Ajumalo Disease.

He said the Finance Minister, who hails from the area, will be pleased to see the bank return there, just as it will return to other towns including President Mahama’s hometown.

Dr. Nduom stressed that the human resource component is ready and GN Bank is only waiting for regulatory approval to relaunch nationwide.
