The Government of Ghana has expanded its flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) policy to include 60 private schools—a landmark move since the policy’s inception under the Akufo-Addo administration.
This extension aims to ease congestion in public SHS facilities and ensure that more students, regardless of the type of institution they attend, have access to quality secondary education at no cost.
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has welcomed the decision, describing it as a progressive step toward making quality education more inclusive and accessible.
“This inclusion demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to education for all Ghanaian students,” GNACOPS stated.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to consult the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), or GNACOPS to confirm the list of approved private SHSs covered under the policy.
