Mr. Michael Creg Afful, Executive Director of Energy News Africa Limited, has emphasized that the success of the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy is deeply dependent on the performance of the energy sector.
The 24-hour economy policy, a flagship initiative aimed at transforming Ghana’s economic landscape, seeks to boost local production, empower industries, and create sustainable employment opportunities through round-the-clock economic activity.
Speaking at the Energy News Africa Limited Anniversary Public Lecture, held under the theme “24-Hour Economy: Can Ghana’s Current Energy Situation Support This Policy?”, Mr. Afful highlighted the central role of the energy sector in driving the policy forward.
He noted that the government, through the Accelerated Development Secretariat, has made it clear that energy is at the heart of the 24-hour economy initiative. Without a reliable and consistent power supply, he cautioned, the policy may struggle to achieve its intended impact.
The award-winning energy journalist called on all key stakeholders in the energy ecosystem to ensure the provision of uninterrupted power to support the government’s vision.
“Ghanaians will expect a stable and reliable energy supply to make the 24-hour economy viable,” he stated, adding that the success or failure of the initiative, which is being spearheaded by the John Mahama-led administration, will largely depend on how well the energy sector performs.
